Steering Our Corporate & Community Spirits High

Being a Responsible Corporate Citizen

In NCS' quest for corporate excellence, we never forget our responsibility as a corporate citizen. We passionately believe in making positive contributions to the communities we operate in. We also believe that we can make the world a better place for everyone to work and live in by building greater social cohesion through better relationships with community groups.

Contributing positively to our communities has always been a key focus of NCS’ corporate citizenship programmes.

NCS Group Raises S$59, 000 for Myanmar and Chengdu Victims

In May 2008, tragedy struck twice when Myanmar was hit by a cyclone and a devastating earthquake rocked Sichuan, China.

The NCS Corporate Citizenship Taskforce initiated a two-week donation drive to raise funds for victims of the two disasters. Response from NCS-ians across Singapore and our regional offices was overwhelming, raising about S$59,000 in donation funds. Apart from financial and emotional support, NCS also provided on-site employee services to our colleagues in Chengdu to support them through the trying and difficult period. Employees in Chengdu also responded wholeheartedly to calls for blood donation in China, while Beijing colleagues pooled money and bought toys and stationery for the children who had virtually lost all that they held dear.

Lawrence Tan, from NCSI Malaysia, said on behalf of the HR team in the Malayisa office, “We sincerely hope that they can and will grow stronger as a nation and move on with their lives, especially those young children who lost their families”.

Offering Aid To Asian Tsunami Victims

When word got round on the 2004 Asian tsunami disaster, NCS employees were quick to spring into action.

Despite being located in different parts of the world, the desire to do something to help the tsunami victims saw NCS employees rallying around in a variety of ways. From Australia to Singapore, Hong Kong to China, NCS raised S$65,000 with the generous support and contribution from its employees over the three-day donation drive. Deeply touched and saddened by news of the tsunami, employees volunteered in united efforts in the collection of medicine, clothes and food for the various relief organisations. Some of its employees even gave their time generously to help pack rellef necessities to be sent to the victims.

Sharing Our Expertise in IT

Leveraging on our talent pool of IT expertise, NCS generously shares our knowledge with the IT community and the community at large.

We are represented in various Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation and Singapore Computer Society (SCS) Councils like the Quality Assurance Chapter, SCS Executive Council and SCS-CITPM (Chartered IT Project Managers) Council. In addition, we are a corporate partner in the SCS Resource Centre Development Fund. In recognition of our contribution to SCS membership, resources and activities, NCS was conferred the inaugural Singapore Computer Society (SCS) Distinguished Corporate Award 2003.

Other NCS community efforts include the Enable 2000 programme where employee volunteers tested and fixed used computers donated by NCS to charitable organisations. NCS is also an active supporter of MINDS through the provision of desktop training.

Giving Back to the Community

At NCS, we have a culture which supports the philosophy that ‘it is more blessed to give than to receive’. Our people believe in making a contribution to the community at large.

We play an active role in supporting the less fortunate through our partnership with Ang Mo Kio Family Services (AMKFS) in the annual philanthropy “Adopt-a-Family” programme. As part of the programme, employees are involved in helping to fulfil the wish-list items of needy families under the care of AMKFS with the aim of bringing cheer to less privileged in our community.

NCS employees also demonstrate their sense of community spirit through volunteering their time in community involvement, including outings with the less fortunate children and elderly.

“Participating in community services to help the needy provides me with a sense of happiness. It is a priceless and meaningful experience sharing the joy around!” said Koo Chin Tat, HD2.

Fostering A Caring Community

NCS recognizes individuals and teams who have made a difference in the community, devoting their selflessly to the community work and helping the less fortunate through its Community Service Award. As part of our efforts to further promote a spirit of volunteerism amongst employees, we have also introduced a leave scheme for staff to take time off to participate in community activities.
