NCS sees bullish demand for Business Continuity & Data Recovery Services at its newly expanded integrated Centre

Singapore, 18 November 2010

NCS today launched its S$21million newly expanded integrated Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) Centre located at Bedok to much fanfare. Guest-of-Honour and Chief Executive Officer of Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, RADM (NS) Ronnie Tay, and Chief Executive Officer of NCS Pte Ltd, Mr Chia Wee Boon were present to grace the opening ceremony.

To-date, approximately 25% of the added capacity has already been being taken up and more than 20 other enterprises are assessing their requirements, 50% of which are from the financial industry. Besides data centre space for disaster recovery (DR), requests for DR work seats are also on the rise. This indicates strong demand for BC/DR services in Singapore, driven by organisations’ increased awareness of the need to mitigate risk exposure.

According to IDC’s estimates in late 2009, the BC/DR services market in Singapore is expected to have a CAGR of 12.7% from 2008 to 2013.

Strong focus in providing BCDR service

With the extension completed, the new integrated BC/DR Centre has increased the facility’s Data Centre space by one-third to 40,000 square-feet, as well as doubled the number of DR work-seats to 1,400.

NCS is well-recognised for its excellence in its business continuity management services. The company has won the Asia Business Continuity Awards for three consecutive years (2007-2009). NCS’ services are certified as ISO-20000 and ISO-27001 compliant, international standards for IT Service. It is also compliant with the SS507, an industry standard developed by IDA for BC/DR Service Providers.

Emphasising the importance of effective business resilience, Chief Executive Officer of NCS Pte Ltd Mr Chia Wee Boon said, “We see an upward trend in customers requesting for workspace and data recovery. By leveraging our expertise in Business Recovery and Continuity, we believe that our customers can benefit greatly from our integrated BC/DR Centre.”

In the pipeline is the phase-two expansion of the BC/DR Centre. More information will be announced at a later date.

Singapore as a trusted operating environment

Singapore has many advantages as a disaster recovery location site: its immunity to natural disasters such as earthquakes and destructive weather patterns, and its well-known geo-political stability. NCS’ expanded Data Centre further supports the positioning and growth of Singapore as a trusted business hub.

NCS expects to see further growth in disaster recovery services in Singapore, as natural calamities, cybercrime, and the internationalised nature of terrorism continue to drive the need for companies to have business continuity setups.

RADM (NS) Ronnie Tay, Chief Executive of IDA Singapore, in congratulating NCS on the opening, said, “Singapore’s national infocomm infrastructure, pro-business environment and skilled manpower have made us a trusted infocomm hub for business continuity planning. This is further supported by companies like NCS who provide efficient and impactful BCP solutions to other companies and organisations based in Singapore.”

Mr Chia added, “As the world economy struggles back on its feet after the worldwide recession, it is paramount that companies look into Business Continuity Planning as one of the most important preventive measures against potential threats and disasters.”
