NCS reinforces its market leader position in CNA’s new Asian Dragon Rising series
NCS Group, a leading information technology and communications engineering service provider in the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions, is slated to appear in a special six-part TV series titled Asian Dragon Rising, which will be telecast on Channel NewsAsia in 22 countries and territories across the Asia Pacific region starting 25 January 2008.
The new TV series will feature 11 leading Asian companies from diverse industries, and provide an in-depth insight into their strengths, growth potential and strategies that have enabled them to grow in the region. NCS is very proud to be featured in this series, in an episode which will air on 22 February 2008 (for the first telecast).
Featuring exclusive interviews with NCS’ Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lim Eng, the episode will provide an insight into NCS’ exponential growth through the years – from its inception in 1981 as the IT arm of the Singapore Government under the then-National Computer Board (NCB) and responsible for the computerisation of the Singapore Civil Service, to its current No. 1 position in Singapore and gaining huge inroads into the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions.
Mr Lim Eng, CEO of NCS Group, said, “NCS has a very unique history as part of the Singapore Government, and it is something that we are very proud of. Indeed, our intimate domain knowledge and deep experience serving the Singapore Government for more than 25 years have laid a firm foundation for us, and stood us in good stead as we venture overseas and grow NCS beyond our shores.”
“While Singapore remains a very important market to NCS, we have to diversify outside of Singapore in order to grow. We have focused our overseas expansion in three key regions, namely: Australia, Greater China (including China and Hong Kong), and the Middle East, and I am pleased to say that we are gaining inroads into these markets,” he added.
NCS has consistently been a leader in the Singapore and regional IT services market, garnering a wide array of ever-improving rankings both locally and overseas. In Singapore, NCS is the No. 1 IT Company in Singapore and the Singapore Government’s Top IT Services Provider for FY2006 – the third consecutive year that it has received this accolade. It is also the only Singapore company to fully achieve CMMI L5 (Capability Maturity Model Integration, Level 5)1 .
In the region, NCS has been making headways with the successful delivery of major e-government projects including the Web-based School Administration and Management System (WebSAMS) for the Hong Kong Education Bureau that serves more than 1,000 schools in Hong Kong, and the Victorian Business Master Key (VBMK) project for the Victorian State Government that links up some 300,000 SMEs to more than 250 government departments in Victoria. In the Middle East, by far the fastest growing market for NCS, it is also gaining ground in the intelligent building and government space, undertaking iconic projects such as the Bahrain Word Trade Centre and government portals for Oman and Qatar.
“Today, our overseas revenue contributes more than 20% of our total revenue. Going forward, we hope to grow our global business, even whilst we continue to grow our business in Singapore,” Mr Lim said.
1CMMI is a process improvement approach adopted worldwide, which provides organisations with the essential elements of effective processes and serves to guide process improvement across a project, division or an entire organisation. Each level of CMMI recognises different capability levels, with CMMI L5 being the most challenging and highest level attainable.
