Company fast-tracks entrance into connected devices market by cultivating ecosystem of partners
At the BEX Asia 2011 event today, NCS announced it has signed on Green Koncepts Pte Ltd as a technology partner. Green Koncepts is a Singapore-based green tech company incubated under the National Research Foundation Technology Incubation Scheme, specialising in intelligent, real-time energy management.
This is the second partnership in Machine-to-machine (M2M) technology that NCS has formed in 2011. Earlier this year, NCS secured a partnership with Europe-based Ferranti, a leading smart metering specialist for the Utilities industry. NCS earlier announced it will be implementing an end-to-end customer service and payment system for the upcoming Tembusu Multi-Utilities Complex (TMUC), using Ferranti’s technology.
“We see an increase in enterprise demand for smart metering solutions, as more companies prepare to attain the ‘Green Mark’ certification issued by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority. Adding Green Koncept to our network of strategic partners will help us expand our portfolio of M2M solutions,’ Mr Wong Soon Nam, Group General Manager of NCS said.
Green Koncept’s smart metering technology makes it easy for green organisations to monitor their energy efficiency, even those located across in multiple geographies. Although the converging trends of capable wireless/cellular networks, ubiquitous mobile devices, and pervasive IT systems has made the concept of intelligent networks of devices more commercially viable than ever, the M2M market is currently fragmented, making it
difficult for businesses to exploit the technology. NCS seeks to bridge the gap by rapidly expanding its ecosystem of partners for M2M technology.
“M2M technology is really about ecosystems of technologies. To realise the potential of M2M, NCS is seeking partnerships with companies that have innovative, unique perspectives on how technology and data should come together,” Mr Wong said.
In the longer term, NCS plans to take M2M technology into several domains of application, including smart metering for utilities, smart cities and intelligent buildings. Gartner estimates that the global connected device market will grow at more than 40 per cent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) through 2014.
