MHIES-A and NCS awarded tender to trial the next generation electronic road pricing system

Singapore, June 7, 2011

MHI Engine System Asia Pte Ltd (MHIES-A), a leading regional intelligent transport system provider, and NCS Pte Ltd (NCS), a leading regional information technology and communications engineering solutions provider, jointly announced today that they have been awarded an 18-month tender contract by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) to conduct the System Evaluation Test (SET) for the next generation electronic road pricing system (ERP2 System).

The SET is a technological trial to help identify a solution most suited for Singapore and can potentially form the basis for development options for the next generation ERP system.

Under the tender agreement, MHIES-A and NCS will be granted seed funding up to $1 million to design, develop and demonstrate the ERP technological solutions, including conducting road testing to validate the performance of the solutions.

Mr Masayuki Yamamoto, Senior General Manager of MHIES-A said: “We have a trusted, proven and long-standing relationship with NCS, the largest ICT service provider in Singapore and we are committed to grow and develop the local ITS industry to ensure a smooth and seamless travel experience for all motorists.”

Mr. Chia Wee Boon, Chief Executive Officer of NCS Group said: “We are very honoured to be given the opportunity to play a part in Singapore’s transport developments. Leveraging our partners’ complementary expertise in the field of manufacturing and our technology competencies in the transport arena, we envisioned to put in place a world-class transport system for Singapore to meet the travel demands of the population.”

The consortium has a remarkable track record, with over 15 years of experience in working on both roadside and in-vehicle equipment for the prevailing ERP in Singapore. It comprises a team of experienced staff with in-depth understanding of the challenges in ERP implementation and operations.

“In line with LTA’s long-term vision of a people-centred land transport system that is both efficient and cost-effective, the consortium is focused on delivering an optimal solution with three key differentiators: The solution must deliver a delightful user experience, enable traffic optimisation and drive open standards”, added Mr Chia.
The consortium will develop various kinds of ITS applications and invest in other research and development activities to discover new technologies that will support an extensive and efficient transport network.
