SATA Banks On Clinic Management System From NCS And IRIS Recognition System From NEC TO Improve Service

The Singapore Anti-Tuberculosis Association (SATA) is banking on web technology from National Computer Systems Pte Ltd (NCS) and NEC Singapore Pte Ltd to improve its service to corporate clients and the public; NCS will design, integrate and implement a new Clinic Management System (CMS) while NEC will be supplying the Iris Recognition System, the first in Singapore Healthcare Industry.

SATA Chief Executive Officer Dr Chong Chee Leong said "The goal of acquiring these two systems is to improve our services. People associate SATA with long waiting times and poor service. We want to tell people that we are serious about improving our customer service and we are putting our money where our mouth is".

The CMS, designed and developed by NCS, is a fully integrated Outpatient Management and Billing system with built-in work flow. The CMS will help SATA to strengthen and streamline its operational workflow and further improve the customer's relationship through a better management of patients' medical and billing records, and clients' profiles and health schemes for their employees. The CMS will also lay the foundation for SATA's Enterprise Health Portal where appointment booking by the public and corporate clients, referral from GPs, Specialists and

Hospitals, payment, bills, on-site health screening as well as personalised health reports could be made online via internet by logging in. It will make more efficient SATA's work in eliminating TB and the provision of preventive health care services.

Amid the recent euphoria about long waiting time at healthcare institutions, SATA is committed to heighten its front counter services by deploying state-of-the art Iris Recognition Technology, supplied by NEC Singapore Pte Ltd.

At SATA, the Iris Recognition Technology is applied in a convenient and accurate Patient Self-Registration Service Station where a patient is required to simply present his left eye for a live Iris capture to be matched with the database to register himself, doing away with the need for appointment cards or ID cards. Upon successful identification, the patient has his appointment confirmed with a printed receipt and he is well on his way for his doctor's consultation. Such a self-registration system helps cut short patient waiting time tremendously by replacing manual processes and multiple data entries. This application will initially be deployed on SATA's mobile X-Ray van and rolled out at all four SATA clinics - SATA Uttamram Clinic (HQ), SATA Jurong Clinic, SATA Kreta Ayer Clinic and SATA Woodlands Clinic - and the other mobile X-Ray van upon good results.

Iris Recognition Technology identifies individual by the unique patterns of the iris - the colour ring round the pupil of the eye. It is highly convenient, non-intrusive and fast. To capture an iris, one does not require any physical contact with any device nor subject the eye to any rays or beams
