Huawei and NCS Comms Engg to Provide Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line 2+ (ADSL2+) Solutions to SingTel

SingTel broadband customers can expect higher Internet bandwidth soon

Huawei Technologies and NCS Communications Engineering (NCS Comms Engg), a subsidiary of NCS Pte. Ltd., have been awarded a multi-million-dollar contract from SingTel in July 2004 for the supply of Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) equipment of up to 150,000 lines using the latest ADSL2+ technology.  This enables SingTel to deliver higher speed data services to its corporate and residential broadband customers.

Mr. Ho Siaw Hong, SingTel’s Vice President (Fixed Networks) said, “SingTel is one of the first adopters of ADSL2+ technology in the telecommunications industry.  With this cutting-edge access solution, SingTel will be able to offer higher bandwidth, faster speed, longer distance broadband service and wider coverage of ADSL service for its customers in Singapore.  This cost-effective solution ensures SingTel’s higher performance and enables SingTel to continue its efforts in upgrading its broadband network.”

NCS Comms Engg, a leader in implementing carrier-class infrastructure, will provide value-added services in the end-to-end integration and commissioning of this next generation network.  In addition, NCS Comms Engg is the designer and the project, deployment and maintenance manager for this project.

Ms. Leow Ai Chyn, Chief Executive Officer of NCS Comms Engg said, “With over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, NCS Comms Engg is pleased to partner Huawei for a second time to deliver this solution to SingTel.  The first Huawei-NCS Comms Engg joint project for SingTel was the Integrated Access Multiplexes in 2003.  Through this DSLAM project, NCS will assist SingTel to expand its broadband network infrastructure which provides high speed Internet services for both home and corporate customers.  This further enhances SingTel’s position as the leader in the broadband market in Singapore.”

Ms. Tang Qibing, Chief Executive of Huawei International Fixed-network Department, expressed, “Huawei is committed to providing high-quality and cost-effective solutions. Moreover, we are closely working with customers and partners.  We believe these relationships are important for improvement of the broadband network benefits, especially for supplying customised value-added solutions, such as triple-play solution.”

Huawei is a top DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) vendor.  According to RHK (Ryan Hankin Kent Inc.) report, by the end of 2004Q1, the shipment of ADSL2+ from Huawei has been ranked No.1 in the global market, and the ADSL shipment has been ranked No.2 in the world.  A key feature of the DSLAM model MA5100 is the provision of both Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and Internet Protocol (IP) up-link interfaces.  This gives operators a choice of ATM or IP interfaces, allowing greater flexibility in the design of their network.  Seamless connections are made available between ATM and IP network.  Huawei is also the top vendor in the IP-DSLAM and MSAN/IMAP field.
