NCS supports new Singapore-based RosettaNet Architecture Centre of Excellence

Singapore, September 16, 2004

NCS Pte. Ltd. (NCS), a leading IT and engineering services provider in the region, joins RosettaNet, the high tech industry’s leading e-business consortium in deploying a new Centre of Excellence to focus on architecture standards development.  Specifically, the Centre will investigate advanced technologies and standards, in an effort to maximise implementation of the standard in Singapore and across Asia.  With more than 20 years of experience in implementing complex and mission-critical projects, NCS can bring value to the Consortium’s development team.

The RosettaNet Architecture Centre of Excellence is a collaboration between RosettaNet, the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), Nanyang Polytechnic and industry players.  RosettaNet provides the e-business process standards expertise, while IDA, NYP and industry partners support Centre resources such as staff, facilities, hardware and software.  The key objective is to identify ways to continually enhance RosettaNet’s architecture development and to facilitate the convergence of RosettaNet and Web Services and Radio Frequency Identity (RFID).

”As a system integrator working on many large-scale integration projects, NCS recognises the need for open standards that are widely accepted by the global trading companies.  In addition to the role of a major implementer of standards on many systems, NCS intends to play an active role in the process of standards evolution that will benefit the industry as a whole,” Said Dr. Chong Yoke Sin, Chief Operating Officer of NCS.

As a promoter of the standards, NCS will sponsor an Architect for the RosettaNet Consortium.  Being part of the RosettaNet development team means that NCS can play a role in the way the standards are developed for the benefit of the industry.  The standards can then be extended to NCS’ regional customers.  NCS also wants to align the increasingly technology frontier towards web services.  With RosettaNet standards governing the applications-to-applications interfaces, web services can then be used to interconnect the processes and business rules.

“RosettaNet is one of the most ambitious international standards implementation efforts. RosettaNet's strategy of maximum industry engagement, which extends to companies in many countries, provides a unique opportunity for NCS to participate in formulating and promoting global standards.  Being part of this programme gives us a competitive edge as it enables us to gain deep insights to the industry's practices, as well as the technologies related to trading and supply chain management." Said Dr. Chong.

Mr. Hau Koh Foo, Consultant of the Chief Architect Office in NCS, is the NCS representative in the RosettaNet Consortium.  He will be trained at RosettaNet US for two months (Oct – Nov 2004), followed by a two-year attachment to the RosettaNet Architecture Centre of Excellence (Jan 2005 – Dec 2006).

“I look forward to being part of the RosettaNet architect community and playing a strategic role in the development of the RosettaNet Integration Architecture (RIA).  Leveraging on NCS’ domain knowledge of the industries and RosettaNet’s architecture model, I believe that we can converge the industry requirements with the architecture initiatives.  In addition to my assigned architect role, I also look forward to acting as an educator to help maximise implementation activity within the community.” Said Mr. Hau.
