NCS expands software development centre in China

SM Lee to grace the opening of the new NCS office as Guest-of-Honour

NCS Pte. Ltd. (NCS), a leading IT and engineering services provider in the region, increases its investment in China with the opening of a new software development centre in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP). Senior Minister of Singapore Mr Lee Kuan Yew will grace the opening ceremony as the Special Guest-of-Honour. SM Lee is in China for the celebration of the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park 10th Anniversary.

The first NCS software development centre overseas, NCS Information Technology (Suzhou) Co Ltd, was established in 1998. From a small group of eight staff, the centre now houses more than 150 developers. It is the largest IT outfit in the SIP and the first in the Park to be awarded the "Foreign Investment Advanced Technology Enterprise of Jiangsu Province" by the Jiangsu Province Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Commission. To meet the burgeoning IT market in China and to support NCS' regional offices, the centre will increase its current headcount to 300 by the end of the year.

"Suzhou is an ideal place for our Global Software Development Centre. When we first started, it served as a development centre to support projects in Singapore. We subsequently offer other services such as IT consultancy, network design and facility management." Ms Leow Ai Chyn, Chief Executive Officer of NCS China, said. "There are abundant talents here. Back then, majority of the management staff were from Singapore. Over time, we have tapped on local expertise and the management of the China office are now mainly local staff," added Ms Leow.

Building on the success of the Suzhou office, NCS expanded its activities in Greater China with further organic growth and by investing in local companies. NCS took up shareholding in IPACS Computer Services (S) Pte Ltd and Zhong Sheng Information Technology Co Ltd. As a group, NCS has built up a significant presence in China with over 500 staff in eight cities - Beijing, Chengdu, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenyang, Suzhou and Wuhan.

Besides software development projects from Singapore and the other China offices, NCS Suzhou centre will also take on projects from NCS' clients in Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Australia, Sri Lanka and Mauritius.  Currently, it is handling more than 40M RMB worth of projects.

"We focus on the success of our customers. And one of our overseas expansion strategies is to be where our customers want us to be. Customers in all these places have many things in common. They demand quality services that are value for money. They expect fast turnaround time. They want the latest technology at yesterday's price," said Mr Lee Kwok Cheong, Chief Executive Officer of NCS.

Mr Lee added, "In juggling the demand of such customers, we found China to be a key part of our success formula. China is where NCS will establish more development centres. China is where NCS will grow our business. And China will enable NCS to stay price competitive. We hope to play a key role and enjoy a part of China's burgeoning IT market."
