NCS Pte. Ltd. (NCS), a leading IT and engineering services provider in the region, announces sponsorship of the SMS system for a decentralised National Day Parade 2005 (NDP 2005). This is the third year running that NCS has been selected as a partner by the NDP Committee to manage the high volume eTicketing application for NDP 2005.
The service, named NCS OnBehalf, is one of several application ticketing systems that the NDP Committee has set up. Given that Singaporeans are an SMS savvy nation, it is expected to be one of the easiest modes of application for last minute ticketing applications.
”NCS is pleased to be a partner in this annual national event. Despite having a decentralised parade for this year, we did not have to rebuild our system as the current system was developed from day one with customer-friendly features, scalability and flexibility in mind. Having a multi-location parade this year, citizens can choose their preferred location. It shows how NCS creates value by connecting people and technology, thus making life easier,” said Dr Chong Yoke Sin, Chief Operating Officer of NCS. Last year, the system managed close to 50,000 ticket requests for admission to the centralised parade.
In addition to providing technical expertise, NCS staff have also volunteered to play ‘Nanny’ to Primary 5 students who will be taken, via the local subway system, to watch the National Education (NE) Show at the Padang.
“Our work/life balance program incorporates a substantial amount of community service. Our staff volunteers are excited to participate in this national event and although it is over two consecutive Saturdays, they are looking forward to watching the parade with the students. While NCS was the sole Nanny volunteer group last year, we will be joined by volunteers from two other organisations for this year’s event. The program is growing and it is great that more companies can help with the logistics of shepherding the children,” said Ms Yong Mai Vean, Chief, Corporate Shared Services.
Volunteering is not new to the employees of NCS. In fact, the company encourages its staff to actively participate in volunteer programs by allowing them to take two days off in the year for such activities. Added second year Nanny volunteer Peggy Tan from NCS’ Learning and Organisational Development Unit, “It is great to help out again this year. Although it is hard work and a great responsibility to ensure the safety of the children, we derive joy in seeing the delight on their faces when they watch the parade.”
The company first started supporting the NDP in 2003 with a contribution of S$27,000. In the third year running, sponsorship has increased by more than seven times to S$157,000. Said Dr Chong, “NCS has been growing and achieving commercial success since our corporatisation in 1996. As a local IT company, our contribution is not only monetary but also in bringing IT home direct to the citizens.”
