ri3k Appoints NCS As Host of European and Asian Trading Hub Systems

Singapore, November 6, 2002

ri3k Asia, the reinsurance trading hub, today announced a consolidation of its global IT operations in Singapore. National Computer Systems Pte Ltd (NCS) - the largest information technology services provider in Singapore, has been appointed as the host of both its European and Asian trading hub systems. Previously, only the Asian Hub was managed by NCS.

Mr Duncan Ironside, Managing Director, ri3k Asia comments, "We decided to consolidate our global technical infrastructure here in Singapore for a couple of reasons. One of those is system availability. In our line of business we provide mission-critical support to our clients, and require the systems uptime equivalent to that of a banking or financial institution. It is imperative that our operations are hosted and managed, twenty four hours, 365 days per year, by a provider that can meet our exact requirements. Aside from a world-class technology partner like NCS, we needed access to a reliable internet backbone which Singapore has".

ri3k operates XML-based infrastructure technology for buyers and sellers of insurance and reinsurance, whereby contracts can be administered, monitored and completed electronically. The ri3k system is a n-tier architecture built in-house upon best of breed technology such as XML, SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, J2EE, and Oracle. This runs on a mixture of Microsoft and HP-UX operating systems sitting upon HP hardware and Cisco interconnects. The 24x7 monitoring of ri3k systems is managed by NCS.

The new consolidated architecture allows ri3k to address four key areas of its business; enhanced system redundancy; improved data capacity; easier system management and adequate security levels. These combined key areas translate into better system performance, increased uptime and guaranteed service levels for ri3k clients.

The system consolidation has enhanced redundancy by allotting more devices for a fail-over scenario, it also provides improved capacity by allowing the servers to function in a dual role environment.

Mr Ironside continues, "By consolidating both infrastructures at NCS in Singapore we can take advantage of the elite technical capabilities that Singapore has to offer. But more importantly we are an organisation committed to Singapore, attracted by its leading edge technology, stable political and social environment, geographical location and logistical capabilities. Singapore is now the hub of our business for Asia and it is the global technical hub for our worldwide operations. We look forward to a long-term relationship with NCS as it has the right technical prerequisites to grow with us".

"ri3k Asia's commitment to its base in Singapore is also in-line with the recent recommendations made by the Economic Review Committee regarding making the Republic a global hub for high value-added, technology intensive processing activities", he added.

NCS has been contracted for the next three years to provide ri3k Asia with managed hosting services and will begin by project managing the relocation of its European servers to Singapore. It will provide the company with a suite of managed services encompassing performance monitoring, problem resolution, security, intrusion detection, systems administration and database administration.

Since 1981, NCS has been in the data centre business providing managed hosting services to companies who require a secure and robust environment to maintain their large enterprise servers. NCS is committed to its customers 24 hours day, 7 days a week. The facilities and processes are continuously audited by established third parties. NCS's reliability and established service standards allowed NCS to be among the first to achieve SunTone Certification award in South Asia.

Says Lau Soon Liang, Assistant Chief Executive at NCS, "By leveraging on NCS's existing infrastructure, ri3k Asia is able to channel valuable resources and focus on providing reliable services to their customers. NCS's technological expertise, depth of experience and expandable suite of Data Centre services will continue to support ri3k Asia's expanding business and reinforce its reliability".
